Finalnd is on my list of - places I have GOT TO FRIGGIN LIVE.
And if you check out this new song by Finnish prog metal band Amorphis, you'll understand how valid my reason is. What I LOVE about this band is how they go against the boundaries of 'genre-specific music' and constantly add something new in every album. So excited about their upcoming album 'Circle' due to release in April via Nuclear Blast.
Amorphis revealed earlier this year that there is indeed a story that the album is based on. It's definitely got a folk feel to it the way vocalist Tomi Joutsen describes the concept and idea of Circle.
The album's concept/story that spreads throughout the lyrics of Pekka Kainulainen, who wrote the lyrics for the most recent Amorphis albums, was explained: "The protagonist has been dealt a bad hand at birth. He's always felt himself an outsider with strong potential to become marginalized. Through an accident, after a crisis, he finds a connection with his inner powers. A guide is sent to him, from some other time and place. He gets a chance to take hold of his own life and change his destiny. From the past of Carelian Finland he finds his own spiritual tribe and the power to turn the course of his doomed life. This is a story of survival."
"Circle represents integrity. Back in the days, when there was something special to talk about, wise men used to sit in circle. Not everyone was invited to join them. But in this story, the protagonist was invited among the wise men's circle." ( So very similar to the Aboriginal culture in Australia)
Given the success and sheer awesomeness of their previous albums, I'm really looking forward to this one!!!!
The lyrics of 'Shades of Gray' give us a hint about how simple yet meaningful Amorphis make their songs.
onnellinen kuuntelua ja pitää sitä raskas!!!
( I'm a little rusty on my finnish so excuse me =P)
